The City of Hills proudly unveiled its first public mural during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 3rd, marking a milestone in the town’s creative and community development efforts. Dozens of residents, city leaders, regional partners, and supporters gathered to celebrate the completion of the Hills Hometown Pride Mural—a vibrant new work of public art that reflects the town’s identity, history, and values.
The mural was commissioned through the Hills Hometown Pride Committee, a collaboration supported by the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG) and Keep Iowa Beautiful’s Hometown Pride program. The artwork was designed by artist and University of Iowa graduate Bree Neyland. The design was completed and painted by artist Drew Etienne. Etienne is a muralist and University of Iowa graduate who has painted murals in Des Moines, Iowa City and many other Iowa communities.
Support is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Iowa Arts Council, which exists within the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The project was also made possible with support from several local funders and partners, including Hills Bank, the University of Iowa Office of Community Engagement, and the Aureon Charity Grant in partnership with Sharon Telephone Company.
